Russia is not your enemy, it is your freind
The majority of population in USA has no idea where Ukraine is situated; neither has it understanding of national customs and history of this country. What Americans do know is that Russia is enemy, said the head of Russian Orthodox Church Abroad.
Metropolitan of America and New York Hilarion (born Kapral) considers that current negativity towards Russia from population of America and Europe is broken apart from reality and is blatantly distorted and false, as dictated by purely political stamps, peddled by Western propaganda, says “Pravoslavnaya Gazeta” (“Orthodox newspaper “).
“I speak with ordinary American people every day, who unfortunately do not know, and even worse, do not want to know anything about Russia – says Metropolitan Hilarion in his interview to tv-channel “Soyuz”. – They are satisfied with the negativity which they receive from TV and newspapers. The majority has no idea where Ukraine is situated, they do not know local customs and history of Ukraine. Although, what they do know is that Russia is enemy. I ask them: what do you know about Russia, about its people, about its culture? What does Russia want? They answer: Russia is a tyrant who enslaves the peaceful people who want to live in democracy.”
This is completely incorrect, thinks archpriest. “Russian people want to live in an orthodox country, for them it is natural folks idea and system of existence. Naturally, when they learn about what is happening in the West, the legalization of “gay marriage”, permission of euthanasia, equating of the traditional religions with sects – all this frightens them. They say, no, we don’t need it”, – said Metropolitan Hilarion.
He lamented that Americans just don’t want to understand why Russia is against homosexuality and other moral perversion. “The reaction to this is:” Oh, those dark evil Russians, they are against freedom, against liberal values, against democracy!” This is logic of sin. But I say to the Americans: “Please understand, Russians are not against. Russians are for traditional Christian morality, for traditional family, with traditional Christian understanding of freedom that cannot be imposed by force, as it is being done in our society “.
“When Russians recognize that schools may, without consent of parents, impose on children knowledge of non-traditional relationships and other such things, of course, it frightens them,” continued the head of Russian Orthodox Church Abroad. — They don’t want and will never allow this to come true in their land. For them, there are some important, saint, intangible concepts that they do not allow anyone to change. It is the Orthodox faith, which made Russia to be a great European State; it is family and honoring of parents, which traditionally is taught in Russian families, respect and pride for their country.”
The Archbishop Hilarion advised Americans to behave with respect to Russia and then the enemy may very soon turn to friend. “Russians, like Americans, don’t like it when somebody is trying to blame their country, humiliate and expose as the guilty one. Russians may be of different views, different interests, but when someone offends their country, they forget all their differences and unite. But if you come to Russians with peace, with good intentions, they will treat you as brother”, – said Archbishop.
“Every day I say, learn Russia, and you will realize that it is not your enemy, but friend. The tried and trusted friend who will never betray or abandon in trouble, as Russia demonstrated it throughout its history. Russia friendly and peace-loving country”, – said Metropolitan Hilarion, adding that, unfortunately, in the United States “media give only one point of view, one look at Russia, and it is negative look.”
“Naturally, propaganda has a very big influence on the attitudes of people. Newspapers and television are cheating and impose a particular point of view. Faith gives the person the opportunity to take a look at what happens without fraudulent misrepresentations. Of course, it is easier for the once who believe in God. They are less dependent on the media and they are open for truth. Looking at the world through Christ, we can more easily see the machinations of satan, lie, initiated by him to disconnect people and to force people to fight with each other. And Christ is the opposite — He joins everybody with His love, makes everybody brothers “, – concluded Metropolitan Hilarion.
